Light the Blue Festival is a celebration of young artists, featuring music, dance, and theatre from 4 - 16 June.


Aberdeen is gearing up for an exhilarating celebration of young talent with the return of the Light the Blue Festival, scheduled to run from 4 June to 16 June. This year, the festival promises a vibrant lineup of theatre, music, dance, workshops, and performances, focusing on young artists and participants across the city.

Hosted at venues like His Majesty’s Theatre and Union Terrace Gardens, Light the Blue is a festival designed for and by young people, aiming to provide a platform for emerging artists and families to engage with the performing arts. The festival launches with a Family Arts Day on June 8, featuring free and low-cost activities including performances, workshops, and sports, with something for everyone.

The Music Hall will host a captivating photography exhibition starting on 8 June, in partnership with Look Again and Mobile Art School. This exhibit will display the works of young photographers, offering insights into Aberdeen through the eyes of its youth.

Fostering future talent

Scottish organisations and artists will collaborate throughout the festival to present a mix of live performances and educational events. One of the highlights includes the Production Pathways event. It provides insights into career opportunities in technical theatre and production arts. This event underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering future talent in the arts sector.

The Family Arts Day will feature performances from local young musicians and dancers with interactive installations like Low-Fi Hip-Hop Beetroots, where giant vegetable characters will entertain attendees in Union Terrace Gardens.

The festival also promises a day dedicated to early career creatives. It will networking opportunities and workshops aimed at inspiring and supporting young artists from Aberdeen and beyond. Additionally, the Northern Lens Youth Film Festival will close the event with a showcase of youth filmmaking, highlighting the importance of nurturing young creative minds.
