Climate Week North East: A Fortnight of Small Local Action

It's easy to feel a bit worn out by climate anxiety, especially when big multinational companies aren't doing their bit. But we shouldn't feel paralised by their inaction. There's plenty we can do at home, in the garden, and alongside neighbours looking after our own streets. Together, we can also push councillors, MSPs and MPs to sort the bigger stuff. It starts small. That's where Climate Week North East comes in.

Now running for the twelfth year, the festival takes place from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 4 October 2026, organised by NESCAN Hub. It a loose collection of hundreds of small events, spread across Aberdeen and the wider region, each one put together by a different group, business or individual who decided to do something.

What’s actually on

Past editions have included tree planting, cycling sessions, beach cleans and film screenings, and the 2026 programme is shaping up along similar lines, with more events being added to the website every week between now and September.

None of this is flashy. A cooking workshop won’t fix the climate on its own. But that’s arguably the honest premise behind the whole fortnight: big problems get chipped away at through lots of ordinary, achievable actions rather than one grand gesture.
