Aberdeen Treasure Hub opens its storerooms to evening visitors for the first time this summer
When: Wednesday 24 June, Wednesday 29 July, Wednesday 26 August, 6pm
Where: Aberdeen Treasure Hub, Northfield
Tickets: Book at aberdeencity.gov.uk
Aberdeen Treasure Hub is opening its storerooms to the public for the first time with a series of themed evening tours this summer. Each session includes an introductory talk from a curator, followed by a guided tour of the storerooms.
Opened in Northfield in 2016, the Treasure Hub is where Aberdeen’s museums and galleries collection is stored when not on display. The Art Gallery, Maritime Museum, and Provost Skene’s House all draw from it, but the full collection runs to over 100,000 items.
Museums Galleries Scotland recognises it as being of National Significance, and the range is broad: fine art, social history, shipbuilding and, for anyone who needs a World Cup fix, football memorabilia.
An evening in the storerooms
It’s worth remembering what the Treasure Hub actually is: a building in Northfield that holds more of Aberdeen’s history and art than most people in the city will ever get to see. Lead Curator Shona Elliot puts it plainly: “Aberdeen Treasure Hub stores thousands of items, far more than visitors to our city centre venues will ever see!”
These tours are a chance to get closer to that collection, with a curator to guide you through it. Tickets are £10 and evenings like this don’t come around often.
