Artists in the AB postcode areas can apply for funding tied to the gallery’s collections.
Aberdeen Art Gallery is offering up to £2,500 to artists in the AB postcode areas willing to take on a hard question: what does it mean to belong in Scotland right now? That’s the brief behind the latest round of its Micro-Commissions programme, now open for applications.
The brief wants artists to dig into heritage, memory and lived experience, and come back with something that complicates the picture rather than settles it. Every proposal has to respond to something in Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museum’s collections. You’re working with objects, images and records already in the building, and asking what they still have to say, or what they leave out.
The theme covers rural and urban life, cultural hybridity, underrepresented voices and communities, and the climate.
Money and timeline
There’s one commission worth £2,500 and two worth £1,000. This is the seventh round of the scheme, which started with funding the gallery won as Art Fund Museum of the Year and has since been supported by the Friends of Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums. Past recipients include Joshua Ekekwe, Flying Lion, and CUSP, the duo of Phoebe Banks and Jess Wilson-Leigh.
