Aberdeen is set to shine as Scotland’s Festival of Light, Spectra, returns from 6 to 9 February. This much-loved event transforms the city’s landmarks into dazzling showcases of light, art, and creativity, offering a memorable experience for both locals and visitors.

Since its modest beginnings 11 years ago, Spectra has grown from a single-site gathering of 10,000 attendees to a city-wide celebration. Spectra continues to inspire, lighting up dark winter nights with its mix of large-scale installations, stunning light projections, and unexpected artistic surprises.

Key locations for this year include Union Terrace Gardens, Marischal College, and Aberdeen Art Gallery, where audiences can expect an exciting blend of innovative works. While the full 2025 programme won’t be revealed until later this month, Spectra always delivers a carefully curated experience that captures the imagination of all ages.

Thousands of visitors of all ages have been moved and thrilled by the amazing, shimmering designs and installations.

Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council

Last year, Spectra celebrated its tenth anniversary in style, attracting over 100,000 visits to Aberdeen’s city centre. The festival’s opening evening was a particular highlight, with stunning installations lighting up iconic locations and creating a magical atmosphere. The event brought together locals and visitors from across Scotland and beyond, who gathered to experience four incredible nights of creativity and community.
