More info: Aberdeen City Council
Now in its third year, Festival of the Sea runs across the city from 11 to 26 July, with events taking in Aberdeen Art Gallery and Maritime Museum, the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen Science Centre, and community spaces in Fittie and Torry.
The programme covers a range of activities for different ages and interests, including arts and craft sessions for children and families, relaxed creative sessions for adults, beachcombing, and storytelling. Sea-themed trails, workshops, and exhibitions will also run through Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums throughout the fortnight.
Tall ship and pirate trail
One of the highlights this year is a visit from the Reaper, a historic tall ship normally berthed at the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther. The Reaper will be visible from the quayside throughout the festival, with the public able to step on board from 23 to 25 July.
New for 2026 is the Iconic Bricks Pirate Trail, a free activity for all ages featuring 18 pirate-themed brick models placed in shops and businesses around the city centre.
Maritime connections
Julie Wood, Aberdeen City Council’s Chief Officer for City Development and Regeneration, described it as an opportunity for residents and visitors to “celebrate our city’s historic bond with the ocean” and to “inspire future generations.”
The full programme is available on the Aberdeen City Council website.
