SUNDRAWN Follow Debut Single with Recovery EP

After previous projects fell apart, the Aberdeen four-piece admit they thought they would “never play music again.” Recovery shows they were right to ignore that instinct.

Across four tracks, the band carry over the atmospheric weight of debut single Smell the Rain, but push it further, letting quiet, floating sections snap into sudden force without much warning. The lyrics track the monotony of routine, nostalgia, co-dependency and the pull toward insular living. Recovery, as a title, fits a band that nearly stopped and didn’t.

Opening with intent

The Constant starts off slow before building into something much bigger, with the whole band kicking in by the end. The song is about being stuck somewhere bad because going feels harder than staying.

Smell the Rain follows, its chorus line working as a callback to happier memories set against present damage. 23 keeps that same emotional intent but points it elsewhere, capturing the grind of chasing goals while old memories keep tugging at attention. By this point the band’s approach has settled: floating, layered melodies carrying vocals that don’t hold anything back.

Turning to face outward

Closer See You looks at people sealed off inside their own bubble, oblivious to anything beyond it. The track builds gradually before breaking into an intense instrumental passage. Synth and strings fill out the arrangement as the EP reaches its end.

Frontman Phil Morrison recorded, mixed and mastered the EP himself. Recovery is out across all major platforms on 25 September.
