RGU Students Rally for Belmont Cinema with Unique Wellbeing Event

Students at Robert Gordon University are stepping up for a good cause. They’re hosting a special health and wellbeing event called The Revival Room. It’s all happening at the OGV Taproom on Bridge Place. Every penny made will go to a great local cause — the Belmont Cinema.
The cinema had to close its doors in 2022. Last year Aberdeen City Council picked Belmont Community Cinema Ltd to take charge. They have big plans to make the cinema better than ever, and they need your help to do it.
The Revival Room event is part of the Aberdeen Student Festival. It’s set for Saturday, 30 March. You can expect yoga, Zumba, a sound bath, and even tarot readings.
This isn’t just fun and games. It’s a real-world learning experience for the students running it. Dr Rachael Ironside from RGU says this kind of hands-on work is priceless, explaining “Experience like this is so important for students to gain and enjoy, and is a crucial element to so many courses at RGU. They are working collaboratively in partnership with several local businesses and have planned each stage of the event, from initial conceptualisation to organising and delivering the event prior to finally evaluating the entire process.”
Sarah Dingwall from the Belmont Cinema is over the moon about the support. The newly appointed Head of Income Generation and Business Development told us, “We are delighted to have been chosen as a beneficiary of the Aberdeen Student Festival. All donations will contribute directly to refurbishing and reopening The Belmont, as an accessible, sustainable, truly independent cinema.”
A local independent cinema like the Belmont Cinema is really important for Aberdeen. It’s more than just a place to watch movies. It’s where people come together to see different kinds of films that you might not find in the big movie theaters. These cinemas show films from all over the world and from local filmmakers too. They also support local movie makers by giving them a place to show their films. Plus, places like Belmont Cinema become special spots in the city where people can learn and talk about movies.
The Aberdeen Student Festival started back in 2016. It’s all about arts, culture, and bringing students together. This year’s Revival Room is another chapter in that story. It’s a chance to chill out, meet new people, and help out a local landmark.
So, if you’re free on 30 March, why not check it out? It’s for a good cause, and it promises to be a lot of fun. Plus, you’ll be doing your bit to help bring back the Belmont Cinema.
