Your Green Ideas Could Shape Aberdeen's Future
NESCAN Hub offers funding and support for community-led environmental initiatives.
We love seeing communities come together to make positive changes in Aberdeen, which is why we were excited when NESCAN Hub reached out to tell us about upcoming funding opportunities for green projects. For three years, they’ve been helping local people turn their environmental ideas into reality across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
With Scottish Government backing, they’re connecting passionate residents with the support they need to make things happen. From neighbours starting community gardens to friends launching repair cafes, local groups are showing how small ideas can create lasting change. What makes NESCAN’s approach special is its focus on projects that help the environment and make our neighbourhoods better places to live.
Your Vote, Your Community’s Future
£1 million funding has been allocated through the Just Transition Participatory Budget Fund last month, with projects having secured up to £50,000 each. Starting November 8, residents across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and Moray can vote for the green initiatives you want to see in their neighbourhoods.
When communities choose which projects to fund, the impact goes beyond environmental benefits - it also strengthens local bonds and creates lasting positive change.
The voting process, which runs until November 25, gives everyone a voice in shaping their community’s sustainable future. This democratic approach to funding, recognised by PB Scotland with the Green PB Seal, puts decision-making power directly in the hands of residents.
Getting Started is Easier Than You Think
For those just beginning their climate action journey, NESCAN Hub’s SEED Fund offers grants of up to £500 to help get ideas off the ground. These smaller investments have already helped launch community gardens, repair cafes, and local food projects across the region.
At NESCAN Hub, we’re constantly seeking new ways to engage with and support local communities, ensuring they have the tools and resources to make the North East greener, healthier, and more sustainable for everyone.
— Alison Stuart, NESCAN Hub
The Hub’s team provides guidance every step of the way, from initial planning to finding the right funding stream. Whether you’re part of an established group or someone with a good idea, NESCAN Hub’s door is open. Their free resources and toolkits make it simple to take that first step toward community climate action. The Hub welcomes applications from smaller, not-for-profit organisations ensuring support reaches grassroots initiatives.
By connecting like-minded individuals and groups, NESCAN Hub is building a network of environmental champions across the North East, proving that when communities come together, positive change follows.
Voting is open to all ages, with the online form available from 12 pm on 8th November at www.jtpbfund.scot, and the public vote closing at 12 pm on 25th November.
