We Are Here Scotland Launches New Directory
The website promotes greater visibility and fair compensation to build real diversity in the arts.
We Are Here Scotland has launched a new directory that lets users effortlessly explore and connect with Black and People of Colour (BPoC) artists from various disciplines. It also supports fair compensation by linking users to fair pay guidelines, meaning that artists are paid fairly for their work.
The directory offers a streamlined, user-friendly interface, allowing visitors to easily search for artists using keywords, browse in-depth profiles, and engage directly with creatives. Recognising a pressing need, Ica Headlam and the team at We Are Here Scotland has launched this directory to robustly support BPoC artists, taking significant and practical steps to empower a diverse range of creatives throughout Scotland.
For a significant period of time we’ve become accustomed to hearing from organisations and institutions talk about systematic changes and becoming more accountable.
Unfortunately this has only transpired in performative and tokenstic gestures. So we did something that we knew was needed for us, this isn’t a radical way of thinking it’s something that makes sense towards supporting our community.

Working hard to reshape the Scottish arts scene
Although just launched, the directory’s potential to foster significant opportunities is clear. Artists wishing to join can easily do so by filling out an application. The platform is both a resource and a community builder which brings together diverse talents and perspectives under one roof.
As the community grows, it fuels inspiration among its members and broadens the horizons of Scotland’s cultural landscape. The directory offers a valuable stepping stone for BPoC artists in Scotland, paving the way for a future where diversity is truly embraced and celebrated in the industry. It’s about giving every artist the support and platform they need to succeed and make their mark in the Scottish arts scene.
We Are Here Scotland is impressively committed to promoting true inclusivity and diversity. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, the organisation is making commendable strides towards ensuring that the voices of BPoC creatives are truly heard and valued.
