Edinburgh-based performance artist and musician Greg Sinclair is bringing his latest creation, Tongue Twister, to Aberdeen as part of this year’s Light the Blue Festival. Aimed at children aged 6 to 12 and their families, this is a theatre show full of rhythm, silliness and multilingual wordplay.

At its core, Tongue Twister is one performer’s attempt to say as many tongue twisters as possible in different languages. All while dancing, playing music and changing costumes, without stepping off stage.

A Show That Celebrates Chaos and Connection

The show builds on Greg’s earlier work Seashells, a short film created in response to Brexit. Like that project, Tongue Twister draws from real conversations with people across Scotland and beyond, using their favourite phrases and sounds to reflect the country’s linguistic diversity.

“I love how tongue twisters are a mix of musicality, silliness and wordplay,” says Greg. “You’re not really supposed to be good at them—it’s more fun if you fail, and I think that’s a positive message in this age of striving to be perfect all the time.”

Colourful, Playful and Completely Unpredictable

The performance is packed with visual surprises, with costume design by Alison Brown and a playful use of sound and movement. Greg creates the show live on stage, shifting characters, languages and energy levels in seconds.

It’s light on dialogue but full of curiosity, connection and joyful chaos. Tongue Twister doesn’t rely on spoken explanation. Instead, it invites audiences to listen closely, laugh often and embrace the fun of not always getting things right.

Part of Light the Blue Festival

Tongue Twister is part of Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Light the Blue Festival, a city-wide celebration of youth creativity and live performance. Full programme details and ticket information will be available soon at aberdeenperformingarts.com.
