Aberdeen’s favourite panto dame is back at The Arts Centre, and she’s not alone.

This year’s Robin Hood cast is full of familiar faces and a good dash of local humour. The newly announced cast includes some returning names. Xander Gordon, Megan Wright and Hannah Buyers are back as Rabbie Hood, Maid Marian and the Sheriff. Sarah Ord also returns, while Corey Adam makes his debut in the role of Will Scarlet.

Nurse Little Joan is once again played by Philip Napier, who has been at the heart of the Arts Centre’s festive productions for over a decade. Young dancers from local school Danz Creations will also feature, sharing the stage with the professional cast throughout the run.

Leaning into place and panto

This is a panto that leans into its setting. More than 80 per cent of the cast come from Aberdeen and the north east. The show is, of course, filled with local humour, Doric turns of phrase, and in-jokes that only make sense if you’ve ever crossed the Tyrebagger roundabout or grumbled about council tax.

You’ll still get sing-alongs, daft jokes and last-minute rescues, but told through a distinctly local lens. This year’s plot sees Rabbie Hood fighting to protect the folk of Aberdonia from the tax-happy Sheriff and phoney Prince John.

More than just panto season

Aberdeen Arts Centre has been part of the city’s creative life for over 60 years. The panto is a major event in its calendar and a key part of how it continues to support local talent.

Earlier this year, the venue launched a three-year fundraising campaign to help secure its future. It’s festive fun, yes, but also part of keeping Aberdeen’s creative spaces active and rooted in the community.

Robin Hood runs from 29 November to 24 December at Aberdeen Arts Centre. Tickets start at £17.50. Check out the full details and grab your tickets now.
