Renelle 893 has teamed up with Aberdeen producer Vagrant Real Estate to release a five-track EP that’s a welcome burst of warmth after a gloomy summer. Drawing on funk, disco, and soul influences, Summer Ends When I Say delivers a nostalgic yet fresh vibe that perfectly captures the last days of summer. It’s a confident release that blends genres and showcases the duo’s talent, making it a must-listen for fans of creative hip-hop.
A Rich Mix of Sound and Style
From the opening track, Ting Don’t Last, with its chopped-up beats and DJ Screw-inspired filters, the EP offers a range of styles. Vagrant Real Estate plays with everything from laid-back funk to 140bpm Rhythm & Grime, and Renelle 893 deftly handles each shift with ease. His fluid delivery and sharp lyrics keep the momentum going, especially on standout tracks like All Day, where the energy hits hard. Summer Ends When I Say is packed so hard memorable lines that it’s clear why Vagrant Real Estate has been so keen to work with the London musician.
I’ve been keen to work on a full project with Renelle 893 since he featured on my 2022 album The Iceberg Theory, and I love how the finished product ended up. He’s one of my favourite underground MCs in the UK just now — I’m very proud of this collaboration and think it’s one of the strongest releases for either of our catalogues.
