Out and About Kin Launches at Triple Kirks with Jimmy Turrell

Aberdeen’s newest creative charity launches with a heavyweight guest speaker

💡

Kin is a new Aberdeen charity built around supporting emerging creatives in the city and Aberdeenshire. Its inaugural event brings graphic artist Jimmy Turrell to Triple Kirks as guest speaker. He’s made work for The Chemical Brothers, Wu-Tang Clan, Adidas, and the New York Times, among others. The range alone tells you something.

The evening also introduces Kinnect, Kin’s own speed-networking format aimed at students, graduates, and creatives across disciplines. There’s live music and a creative swap shop running alongside it, where attendees can exchange skills rather than business cards.

What Kin is trying to do

The outfit’s pitch is straightforward: the north-east of Scotland needs a long-term home for emerging creative talent, somewhere that builds careers and connections rather than just hosting one-off events. Whether Kin can deliver on that over time remains to be seen, but the launch at least suggests they’re thinking past the opening night.

Student tickets are available at a reduced rate. If the ticket price is still a barrier, Kin asks you to get in touch at info@kin-abz.org, with all conversations treated in confidence. That’s worth noting for an event pitched at people who are often early in their careers and not flush with cash.
