New Park Proposal for Queen Street Takes Shape

Aberdeen’s £15 million Queen Street urban park proposal aims to create a lively green space, boosting pedestrian and cycling access between the city centre and the beach.

New Park Proposal for Queen Street Takes Shape

Aberdeen City Council has submitted a planning application for a £15 million urban park on Queen Street, aiming to breathe new life into this central area. This project forms a crucial part of the Council’s City Centre and Beach Masterplan, which seeks to revitalise Aberdeen’s cityscape.

Designed with input from community stakeholders, the park will feature outdoor seating, performance areas, and a terraced garden, offering something for everyone. The inclusion of a sensory garden and enhanced greenery ensures there's plenty of space to enjoy nature. It's a park where locals and visitors can gather, relax, and experience Aberdeen’s culture.

Connecting and Inspiring

Positioned opposite the old police headquarters, the park aims to improve pedestrian and cycle access between central Aberdeen and the beach, making the area more accessible. The development is hoped to inspire nearby businesses and landowners to invest in the Queen Street area, contributing to Aberdeen’s ongoing transformation.

The project, if approved, promises to become a lively hub for the community, blending nature, culture, and connectivity...especially with The Lemon Tree, Arkade Gallery and The Arts Centre surrounding the space.

The Value of Urban Green Spaces

Urban parks play a vital role in cities like Aberdeen, offering a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Green spaces have been shown to boost mental health, encourage physical activity, and provide a sense of community by bringing people together. They create pockets of nature within the city, which can improve air quality and support local biodiversity.

For a city like Aberdeen, introducing more greenery helps soften the urban landscape, making it more inviting for residents and visitors. The Queen Street urban park represents an important step towards creating a healthier, more vibrant environment where people can connect with nature, enjoy cultural activities, and foster a sense of belonging in the city’s heart.
