Heritage Aberdeen 2026: A Celebration of African Art, Music and Fashion

Raven Afrikultica's most ambitious event yet hits the town on 28 March.

Deji Ekundayo at Raven Afrikulture got in touch today about Heritage Aberdeen 2026. It immediately stood out as one of those events that obviously makes the city a better place. It takes place on Saturday 28 March at Motif on Union Street, running from 2pm to 7pm, and it’s the most ambitious thing the organisation has put on yet.

The event pulls together four musical acts, four visual artists, four fashion designers, and a showcase of Black-owned businesses from across Scotland. Ekundayo has been building towards this for sixteen months.

It has been a great privilege for us at Raven Afrikulture to have supported incredible talents in our community…and to have witnessed the profound and positive impact on people’s lives, all while staying authentic to our African roots and telling our stories in our own voices.

What’s happening on the day?

The visual art side features Isaac Kuria, Damas Visuals, and Bayo Akanbi, showing work that draws on the depth and diversity of African creative tradition. It’s the kind of programming that rewards time, with four artists across one afternoon giving you room to actually look rather than rush past.

Fashion designers including Naba Clothing and Berry Clothing are presenting collections that connect African heritage with contemporary expression. The fashion sits as a full strand of the programme, which gives the day a different shape to your average afternoon event.

Music from Ebuu Kanary and Oluwanifemi runs through the afternoon, with more acts still to be announced. Alongside all of that, a curated showcase of Black-owned businesses operating across Scotland fills out the day. Five hours of it, across music, art, fashion and enterprise.

Shining a light on emerging artists, performers and creatives

Co-organiser Jane Akadiri of Touch of Love Outreach explained what the event is trying to do: “Culture has the power to bring people together, build understanding, and strengthen communities. This event will shine a light on talents that may not always be seen, heard, or recognised. By creating a welcoming platform for emerging artists, performers, and creatives, the event helps uncover and nurture hidden talent within our communities.”

We’re fully on board with this one. A brilliant addition to the calendar, and we’re looking forward to seeing you there. Tickets are available now.
