Open Road and Aberdeen Climate Action are hosting an eye-opening documentary at Fittie Community Hall this Thursday (13 March), inviting you to join the conversation about what really drives the climate crisis.

The documentary Purpose – A Wellbeing Economies Film digs into the heart of the global climate emergency by exploring how our economic systems shape our environment, communities, and daily lives. Instead of focusing on endless economic growth, the film introduces the idea of a wellbeing economy—one that prioritises the health, happiness, and sustainability of our societies.

At the heart of the film are the experiences of people and communities working to shift away from profit-focused policies. You’ll hear from leading thinkers and activists pushing for change, highlighting how countries like Scotland, Iceland, New Zealand, Wales, and Finland are rethinking their approach to economic success. Scotland’s role stands out, providing an inspiring example of how policy can prioritise community wellbeing and sustainability.

Following the screening, there’s a discussion featuring filmmaker Dr Lukas Bunse from the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland and the film’s director, Dr Marcus Oetting. They’ll explore how Aberdeen itself can embrace these innovative ideas and what a wellbeing-focused economy might mean for our city and beyond.

This event is a chance to gain insight into how economic decisions impact our everyday lives and the wider world. If you’ve ever wondered why tackling climate change seems so challenging, this film offers a fresh perspective. The evening promises engaging discussions, meaningful insights, and a chance to connect with others who care about Aberdeen’s future.

Whether you’re passionate about the environment and economics, or just curious about new ideas, Purpose is worth your evening. It’s about identifying problems and discovering real solutions so everyone can be part of that journey.
