Emerging Talent Set to Debut New Works at Aberdeen Arts Centre
Scratch That offers a platform for emerging north-east theatre artists, fostering the next wave of creative talent in Aberdeen.
Four up-and-coming theatre makers will debut their brand new works at Aberdeen Arts Centre this February, offering a glimpse into the future of theatre in the north-east. The performance is part of Scratch That, a development project created by Scottish Youth Theatre in collaboration with Aberdeen Arts Centre.
On Wednesday 12 February 2025 at 7.30 pm, Scratch That will showcase fresh, innovative theatre created by local artists, offering them the chance to present their work to an audience and gain valuable feedback as they continue to develop their craft. For just £5, theatre fans can experience the next wave of talent.
The four featured artists were selected from a pool of applicants for the programme, which offers mentoring from acclaimed Scottish theatre-maker Eilidh Loan. Annabel Lunney, Carly Wilson, Ciaran Drysder, and Libby Taylor will take to the stage with new pieces that explore themes of identity, relationships, and belonging. Each performance offers a unique perspective and a fresh voice in the local theatre scene, from a powerful exploration of Long COVID to a tense rural Scottish whodunnit.
Amy Liptrott of Aberdeen Arts Centre is excited to work with Scottish Youth Theatre, telling us: “This is an exciting opportunity for theatre fans to witness fresh, boundary-pushing work that might be the next big hit to emerge from the north-east.” Annie Lowry Thomas from Scottish Youth Theatre added: “We’re excited to see how these talented individuals will grow, and we look forward to sharing their work with an audience eager to see the future of Scottish theatre.”
Tickets for Scratch That are available now from Aberdeen Arts Centre. It’s a great chance to support emerging talent and witness the creative process in action, as these new works are brought to life in front of an audience. With mentoring from some of the best in the industry and a platform for young artists to refine their craft, Scratch That is a must-see event for anyone passionate about the future of theatre in Aberdeen.
