Community Opportunity: WayWORD Wants Young People to Shape Its 2026 Programme
Free sessions for 17–26s to develop arts events with festival support.
WayWORD Festival is opening up its programming process to people aged 17–26, offering support to develop and run events for next year’s festival.
The festival runs two identical sessions on Wednesday 28 January where you can learn how to get involved. One’s at 2pm in the Sir Duncan Rice Library (room 224), the other’s at 6pm in Aberdeen Central Library. Both are free but you need to book.
This isn’t just about pitching a fully-formed idea. The WayWORD team will work with you during the session to develop concepts, whether you arrive with something specific in mind or want to explore possibilities on the day. They’re looking for events across literature, poetry, visual arts, music, theatre and other creative formats - author talks, workshops, panel discussions, performances, or something else entirely.
The opportunity is aimed at young people and students who want to learn how events get made, gain experience in the creative industries, or simply make something happen in Aberdeen’s cultural scene.
If you’re interested, book your place through the links above. You can also email the WayWORD team at wayword@abdn.ac.uk with any questions.
