August Highlights at The Tivoli Theatre
From silly space missions to synth-heavy tributes, August brings something different every week.

The Tivoli has a great programme this August, with a schedule that swings from musical dinosaurs and school concert chaos to tribute acts that take sound and style seriously. It’s an unusual mix, but that’s what makes it worth looking twice. A mix of big characters, familiar names and performances.
The Tivoli has always balanced community roots with national touring acts. Today, it supports local theatre groups alongside bigger productions, keeping its doors open to a broad range of stories and sounds.

Children’s theatre with bite
If you’re trying to coax younger kids into their first theatre trip, The Dinosaur That Pooped a Rock Show! (3 Aug) might do the trick. Based on the bestselling books by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter, it leans into full-on silliness with sing-alongs and a rocket-fuelled space mission.
Slightly older kids might get more out of Tom Gates: Epic Stage Show (5 Aug), which brings Liz Pichon’s doodle-covered books to life with a fast-paced, cartoonish energy. Both are family-friendly without being cloying.
There’s also a summer pantomime version of The Little Mermaid (13–14 Aug), full of booing, cheering and fishy nonsense. It’s pitched as a holiday treat for younger kids, with early bird pricing available if you’re booking ahead.

Live music for fans of the old and loud
August’s music shows lean into nostalgia without leaning on it too heavily. Coda – A Tribute to Led Zeppelin (8 Aug) recreates the sound and swagger of the original band with care and technical precision.
A week later, The Unravelling Wilburys (9 Aug) channel Dylan, Orbison, Harrison, Petty and Lynne with strong harmonies and a knowing wink. Their set mixes hits, storytelling and light humour.
Synth, strings and a louder finish
Further into the month, The Devout (16 Aug) brings Depeche Mode’s catalogue back to life with brooding synths, theatrical lighting and attention to the band’s layered sound.
To close August, Symphonix Rock Orchestra (30 Aug) rework well-known tracks by Queen, Metallica, Bowie and others into something bigger and more dramatic. It’s orchestral but not stiff, blending strings with electric guitars and vocals.
There’s a real mix of shows this month, with something likely to catch your interest. Whether you’re after a noisy night out or a light-hearted family afternoon, the Tivoli’s August line-up offers plenty to choose from.
