Aberdeen’s Lego Marvels: The Story Behind Sketchy Maker’s Urban Art Adventure

Aberdeen has recently been the playground for an intriguing urban art project. Maker and artist, The Sketchy Maker, hid 15 Lego-inspired concrete mini figures across the city. These figures, ranging from a Shell worker and a train driver to a medic, a wizard, a surfer, and a pilot, were strategically placed in various locations. It was a whimsical addition to Aberdeen’s streetscapes. These carefully crafted characters have now mysteriously disappeared.
The Sketchy Maker has taken to YouTube to share the creative process behind these captivating figures. The video shows how he used silicon moulds, and concrete to bring these miniatures to life. The Sketchy Maker designed and created moulds using 3D printing technology and a silicon mould making kit.
The idea behind this unique invasion was to inject a sense of fun and curiosity into the city. The project highlighted The Sketchy Maker’s creativity and skill. But it also tapped into the collective imagination of Aberdeen’s residents and visitors. It encouraged folk to engage with their urban environment in new and unexpected ways.
As the whereabouts of the figures remain a mystery. But the disappearance just adds an extra layer of intrigue to the project. Art can be as ephemeral as it is impactful.
