Aberdeen Art Gallery Launches New Round of Artist Micro-Commissions
These new micro-commissions aim to support and showcase Aberdeen talent.
Aberdeen Art Gallery has invited local artists from the AB postcode area to submit proposals for their latest round of funded Micro-Commissions. This is a brilliant opportunity for creative practitioners—whether you’re an artist, a maker, a musician, a dancer, a designer, a writer, or a performer—to bring new ideas to life.
Supported by the Friends of Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums, the Micro-Commissions offer a platform to engage with and interpret the gallery’s collections. Artists are encouraged to explore themes like energy, the environment, local identity, and representation. The programme is looking for proposals that can spark dialogue and create connections with the community.
There are three funding opportunities available. One commission of £2,500 and two commissions of £1,000. Artists will have 12 weeks to develop and realise their proposed works, offering a generous timeframe to produce something truly impactful. This is the fifth round of Micro-Commissions from Aberdeen Art Gallery and the third supported by the Friends of AAGM. Established with the help of the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2020 award, the programme has already supported 20 local artists in creating artworks that reflect Aberdeen’s cultural heritage.
Aberdeen Art Gallery has a particular strength in collecting contemporary art. Since the Friends were established almost 50 years ago, we have been committed to helping to develop this outstanding collection through new acquisitions.
